FULL METAL SHADOW

The Shadow Fan returns for Episode 44! This week, Barry Reese reviews two tales that are sure to stir up strong emotions from fans. First up: Reign of Terror, one of Bruce Elliott's Shadow novels (1948). In Elliott's final stab at the character, we finally get to see how the author would have handled the "traditional" version of the hero. Our second review: the final issue of Andrew Helfer's controversial run on the DC Comic puts The Shadow's head on top of a robot body! The Shadow # 19 (1988) can either be seen as one of the most unique moments in the character's long history -- or, perhaps, its absolute darkest.

Our latest entry Fight Card: Can’t Miss Contender is now available on Amazon.  Behind our Jack Tunney pseudonym this month is Kevin Michaels.  Fight Card: Can’t Miss Contender is Kevin’s second Fight Card fisticuff.  This puts him in good company with David Foster and Eric Beetner, who have both written two epic punch-ups in the Fight Card series.

While Fight Card: Can’t Miss Contender is not a direct sequel to Kevin’s Fight Card: Hard Road, there is some minor character crossover.

PARKER RETURNS IN SLAYGROUND!

It was teased yesterday, but now IDW has released an official press release about the upcoming graphic noel adaptation of Donald Westlake's Parker novel, Slayground by Eisner Award winning creator, Darwyn Cooke.

San Diego, CA (July 20, 2013) - Darwyn Cooke's acclaimed Parker series from IDW continues to expand with the classic Slayground. In this newest graphic novel, Parker is put to the test against crooked cops and sleazy gangsters after a heist goes south and he finds himself trapped in an amusement park closed for the winter, and embroiled in a deadly game of cat and mouse... a game that slowly starts to favor the mouse.


"A boarded up amusement park was an inspired setting for Parker," said writer/artist Darwyn Cooke, "and Westlake made the most of it. A great story that I'm enjoying the hell out of adapting."

Based on the influential novels by Richard Stark, AKA, Donald Westlake, Parker is a coldly calculating master criminal, one with a very rigid code. The IDW adaptations by Darwyn Cooke of The Hunter and The Outfit have received multiple Eisner and Harvey awards. The Score, released last year, is nominated for an Eisner Award at this week's San Diego Comic-Con International. Slayground will be the fourth Parker adaptation in the popular and much lauded series.

Darwyn Cooke's distinct style has made him a premier writer and artist in the comic book industry. A former animator, Cooke entered mainstream comics in 2000 with his critical hit Batman: Ego for DC Comics.

Donald Westlake, writing as Richard Stark, was the acclaimed author of the Parker series. He was a three-time Edgar Award winner, as well as being named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America, that prestigious societies highest honor.

FIGHT CARD COMES OUT SWINGING!

The latest outing from Fight Card Books, Fight Card: Get Hit, Hit Back from author John Kenyon, has just been released under a cover by David Foster.  Learn more about Get Hit, Hit Back here.

Next up in June will be Fight Card: Brooklyn Beatdown from top New Pulp writer Derrick Ferguson.  July will premier the sophomore effort from Kevin Michaels, Fight Card: Can't Miss Contender, and August will give us the very cool Fight Card: Union Of The Snakes from Anthony Venutolo.

The Fight Card editorial team has been working hard with author Carol Malone on their first Fight Card Romance entry Ladies Night, which will also be coming soon along with more titles in or new Fight Card MMA series.

The Pulp Ark convention held last month found six Fight Card authors duking it out in the same room together.  Everyone at Fight Card is excited for the upcoming December entry Fight Card: Sherlock Holmes from Andrew Salmon. The publisher has also been soliciting Fight Card tales featuring Robert E. Howard, Papa Hemingway, Rod Serling, and... wait for it... luchadores (because everything is better with luchadores)...

Fight Card Books has unleashed the first two titles in their new Fight Card MMA series. Currently in release in e-book format for Kindle, a paperback will follow soon.  Fight Card MMA: Welcome To The Octagon from Gerard Brennan, and Fight Card MMA: The Kalamazoo Kid from Jeremy Brown both deliver the same dynamic pulp action of the Fight Card novels, but moves it all up to date and inside the cage.

Jeremy Brown (Fight Card's erstwhile website guru) broke ground with his MMA themed novels Suckerpunch and Hook And Shoot, both featuring his series character fightrer Woodshed Wallace.  In Fight Card MMA: The Kalamazoo Kid, Jeremy brings his kick-ass style prose to a new MMA tale and a deadly battle for his new hero, MMA trainer Ray Kurt.

FIGHT CARD MMA: THE KALAMAZOO KID
