One of the things I liked best about reading (or watching) Tarzan adventures was the thrill of discovery. Tarzan was always stumbling across some hidden locale or braving the unknown. The Once and Future Tarzan carries on that tradition with another big unknown for our beloved pulp hero... the future. Tarzan has conquered the jungle, but can a nearly immortal Lord of the Jungle thrive in a post-apocalyptic London? Writer Alan Gordon spins a pulpy tale that hits all the right notes. Artists Bo Hampton and Thomas Yeates provide stunning visuals that all but leap off the page. And there's a fight with a giant crocodile that is suitable for framing. Pulp and adventure fans alike will enjoy this thrilling yarn. Hopefully, we will see more from this creative team., 4 BIG STARS!

Full disclosure: I was slipped an advanced copy of this story. The trade paperback collected edition will be in comic shops, book stores, and on-line retails next week. You should definitely pick up a copy.

JAMIE CHASE ART GALLERY HEADLINES ERB'S AT THE EARTH'S CORE EVENT IN SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO JULY 12TH!

On Tuesday, July 12th, artist Jamie Chase will discuss his artistic process and illustrations for the new Sequential Pulp Comics/Dark Horse Comics edition of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ At the Earth’s Core. There will be a display and sale of Jamie's original artwork in the gallery! The event takes place from 6:00 PM through 8:00 PM, and tickets are $5.00 for General Admission or $15.00 for admission and a copy of the graphic novel.

TARZAN: THE COMPLETE RUSS MANNING NEWSPAPER STRIPS VOLUME 2 (1969-1971)

IDW Publishing is proud to announce that the Library of American Comics will be collecting comics legend Russ Manning's classic run with Edgar Rice Burroughs' King of the Jungle in 2013! TARZAN: THE COMPLETE RUSS MANNING NEWSPAPER STRIPS is a four-volume series. The first three volumes will chronologically collect all of Manning's daily black & white and full-color Sunday strips from 1967 to 1974, while the fourth volume will collect the remaining Sunday strips, which Manning continued to do until 1979.

"The addition of Tarzan to the Library of American Comics amplifies even further that the imprint is the premier archival home for comic strip reprints and collections," says IDW's President and Chief Operating Officer Greg Goldstein. "Russ Manning's Tarzan run is one of the real highlights of the modern age of adventure strips and we are extremely excited to be the home of its long-anticipated return to print."
The series of hardcover volumes will commence May 29th with Tarzan: The Complete Russ Manning Newspaper Strips, Vol. 1: 1967 - 1969. Fans will be treated to the first-ever collection of a historic turning point in Tarzan history: when Russ Manning was handpicked by the Burroughs estate to return the strip to its creator's original vision. Manning put together a dream team of assistants in this historic endeavor, including future comics greats Dave Stevens, William Stout, and Mike Royer, creating one of the most loaded rosters in comics history, and a perfect opportunity for new fans to discover the adventures of Viscount Greystoke.

In his introduction to Volume One, William Stout writes, "Russ Manning was a natural storyteller. He may also be one of the most underrated writers in comics. His beautiful art is so captivating that it's easy to understand how it might overshadow his scripts. Martin Powell has been a professional writer since 1986, having written hundreds of stories in numerous genres, for Disney, Marvel, DC, and Sequential Pulp/Dark Horse Comics, among others. Nominated for the prestigious Eisner Award for his work with Sherlock Holmes, he has written for some of the most popular characters in the industry, including Superman, Batman, Popeye the Sailor, and Tarzan of the Apes. He’s also the author of many children’s books and is co-creator of the acclaimed Halloween Legion, with illustrator Diana Leto. Powell’s The Tall Tale of Paul Bunyan won the coveted Moonbeam Children’s Book Award for Best Graphic Novel of 2010.

ARTIST: TOM FLOYD
Tom Floyd is a self-professed jack of all trades. He has been everything from a Texas oilfield roustabout, a mechanic, a soldier, a printer, and a public school art teacher. Finally settling down some 14 years ago as a graphic designer-illustrator-animator for a PBS station. He has worked on productions from local programs to Reading Rainbow, NOVA science NOW, and American Experience. But throughout all of this he remained a comic fan, artist and writer working for companies such as Elite Comics, Eternity, Moonstone, and Marvel. He was honored in 2010 to receive the Burroughs Bibliophiles Golden Lion Award for his illustrations for new Bison Books editions of the Moon Maid, Pellucidar, The Eternal Savage, and Pirates of Venus. He has also written and illustrated an on-line web comic Captain Spectre and the Lightning Legion, which is a pulp/serial/adventure comic. ARTIST: DIANA LETO
Diana Leto has been a professional artist and graphic designer for over a decade. Her illustration has illuminated projects at institutions including The Jim Henson Legacy, Sesame Street and Sequential Pulp/Dark Horse Comics. She is co-creator and illustrator of the Halloween Legion, a critically acclaimed all-ages mystery/adventure series featuring “The Worlds’ Weirdest Heroes.” Presenting contemporary design at Adobe MAX, addressing teachers and children about being a woman in the arts at KIDS’ COMIC CON and helping refresh beloved characters for a cultural institution, Diana’s artwork stands at the intersection of education and inspiration.
