PARKER RETURNS IN SLAYGROUND!

Cover Art: Darwyn Cooke
It was teased yesterday, but now IDW has released an official press release about the upcoming graphic noel adaptation of Donald Westlake's Parker novel, Slayground by Eisner Award winning creator, Darwyn Cooke.

Official Release:

Darwyn Cooke's Newest Adaptation Coming In December

San Diego, CA (July 20, 2013) - Darwyn Cooke's acclaimed Parker series from IDW continues to expand with the classic Slayground. In this newest graphic novel, Parker is put to the test against crooked cops and sleazy gangsters after a heist goes south and he finds himself trapped in an amusement park closed for the winter, and embroiled in a deadly game of cat and mouse... a game that slowly starts to favor the mouse.

"A boarded up amusement park was an inspired setting for Parker," said writer/artist Darwyn Cooke, "and Westlake made the most of it. A great story that I'm enjoying the hell out of adapting."

Based on the influential novels by Richard Stark, AKA, Donald Westlake, Parker is a coldly calculating master criminal, one with a very rigid code. The IDW adaptations by Darwyn Cooke of The Hunter and The Outfit have received multiple Eisner and Harvey awards. The Score, released last year, is nominated for an Eisner Award at this week's San Diego Comic-Con International. Slayground will be the fourth Parker adaptation in the popular and much lauded series.

Darwyn Cooke's distinct style has made him a premier writer and artist in the comic book industry. A former animator, Cooke entered mainstream comics in 2000 with his critical hit Batman: Ego for DC Comics.

Donald Westlake, writing as Richard Stark, was the acclaimed author of the Parker series. He was a three-time Edgar Award winner, as well as being named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America, that prestigious societies highest honor.

RICHARD STARK’S PARKER GOES SOFT!

New softcover cover by Darwyn Cooke

Softcover that is.

IDW’s adaptation of Richard Stark’s Parker: The Hunter by Darwyn Cooke is now available in softcover.

The Hunter, the first book in the Parker series, is the story of a man who hits New York head-on like a shotgun blast to the chest. Betrayed by the woman he loved and double-crossed by his partner in crime, Parker makes his way cross-country with only one thought burning in his mind-to coldly exact his revenge and reclaim what was taken from him!

HC art by Darwyn Cooke
Richard Stark (AKA Donald Westlake) was a master writer of crime fiction and Parker is arguably his greatest Creation-having been featured in more than a dozen novels and several well-regarded films (including Point Blank with Lee Marvin and Payback with Mel Gibson), and an upcoming one starring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez that will be released this fall.

Master storyteller Darwyn Cooke has won nearly every award available to comics creators. His DC: The New Frontier was turned into an Emmy-nominated animated feature. The Hunter is the first in a series of Parker graphic novels that Cooke is adapting, the first two earning the comics Auteur more Eisner and Harvey awards for his already crowded mantle.

Parker: The Hunter is now available in 6x9 softcover.

IRON SKY COMES TO IDW

Comic Book Adaptation Cover

Movie Poster
IDW Publishing, along with comic production house Hazmat Studios and film production company Blind Spot Pictures, have announced an Iron Sky movie tie-in graphic novel in March.

Drawn and colored by the team of Gerry Kissell and Amin Amat, the artists behind IDW's best selling graphic novel Code Word: Geronimo, and Xbox's comic game tie-in Alan Wake. The book will also feature original pin-up art by Miguel Angel Abad and Darren Douglas, and chronicles the battle against the return of history's most notoriously evil villains, the Nazis, who unbeknownst to us, escaped to the moon following their defeat in World War II.

Movie Poster
"The graphic novel is a prequel to the hit sci-fi action film Iron Sky produced by Blind Spot Pictures, and focuses on how the Nazis ended up on the moon, and how Udo Kier's character, Wolfgang Kortzfleisch, became Der Uberfuhrer," Kissell said. "Part steampunk and part comedy, the graphic novel was written masterfully by Alan Wake scribe, Mikko Rautalahti. who has a wicked sense of humor."

The book will be 104 pages, with 67 pages of comic art with an additional 33 pages of production art, behind the scenes bonus material, and other exclusive material written by the film's director, Timo Vuorensola.

MARS ATTACKS IDW!

IDW Publishing has revealed the cover for the upcoming MARS ATTACKS POPEYE comic book along with others in the Mars Attacks... line. Mars Attacks Popeye is written by Martin (Halloween Legion) Powell with art by Terry (The Phantom) Beatty. Mars Attacks Popeye will be in stores January 2013 from IDW.

PRESS RELEASE:

IDW has released the details on their upcoming crossover event between Topps' MARS ATTACKS property and... well, pretty much every license under the IDW banner.

Spread out over five weeks in January, the full list of planned one-shots includes:

MARS ATTACKS POPEYE by Martin Powell, Terry Beatty, and Tom Ziuko
MARS ATTACKS KISS by Chris Ryall, Alan Robinson, and Tom Ziuko
MARS ATTACKS THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS by Erik Burnham and Jose Holder
MARS ATTACKS TRANSFORMERS by Shane McCarthy and Matt Frank
and
MARS ATTACKS ZOMBIES VS. ROBOTS by Chris Ryall, Andy Kuhn, and John Rauch

IDW Editor-in-Chief and Chief Creative Officer Chris Ryall is the brains behind the event, and had this to say about it:

"The 'Mars Attacks' property is a bit more insane than most of the licenses we have. There's lots of good carnage in there, so we thought it'd be fun if we could spin that into some of our other books that are more respectful properties. Normally in 'Transformers' you don't get the level of insanity of a 'Mars Attacks' comic. We thought it'd be fun to mash that all together.

I wanted 'Mars Attacks' to fit into these universes by the rules already established in these books. So if there's a Popeye story, the Martians can only cause as much damage as you'd see in an old Popeye strip or a Fleischer cartoon. It's not going to be quite as over-the-top violent as John Layman's 'Mars Attacks' comic. It'll fit well into the Popeye universe. So every issue is a stand-alone story, and they roll out chronologically by era. Popeye comes first and takes place further back in the timeline around the 1930s."

Wood also became a star of EC's satire comic called Mad, which went on to even greater success as a magazine, allowing the artist to apply his amazing talents in a broader spectrum. When the comics industry fell on lean times during the mid 1950s, Wood segued into the field of science fiction pulp illustration, providing over 200 beautiful drawings and several color cover paintings for the digest magazines; particularly Galaxy. Wood left behind a legacy of great art, much of which has never been reprinted. This book will feature them all. Long time Wally Wood historian Roger Hill has spent the past twenty years pulling together the history of Wood's involvement with the pulp digests and tracking down original art for this project. Over half of the images have been pulled from the originals or from Wood's personal file copies, allowing Wood fans the finest possible reproduction!

V-WARS
Written by Jonathan Maberry, Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro, James A. Moore, Gregory Frost, John Everson, Keith R.A. DeCandido, and Scott Nicholson.

A sweeping threaded narrative of the global phenomenon known as the Vampire Wars.

Mankind has been silently infected by millennia-old bacteria unknowingly exhumed by a scientific expedition in Antarctica. Now, in some rare cases, a person's so-called "junk DNA" becomes activated, and depending on their racial and ethnic heritage they begin to manifest one of the many diverse forms of the "others" that are the true basis for the legends of supernatural creatures. These aren't your usual vampires and werewolves -- it goes much deeper than that.

Conceived by Jonathan Maberry, V WARS features stories from various "frontlines" as reported by such contributors as Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro, James A. Moore, Gregory Frost, John Everson, Keith R.A. DeCandido, and Scott Nicholson (as well as Maberry himself, of course).
The result is a compelling series of tales that create a unique chronicle of mankind's response to this sudden, hidden threat to humanity.
