CAPTAIN HAZZARD : CUSTER'S GHOST

TWO PULP HEROES UNITE!

Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to bring together two of pulpdom’s most unique and colorful heroes in one fast paced, all action adventure; “Captain Hazzard – Custer’s Ghost” by award winning New Pulp writer Ron Fortier.

When an eerie ghost rider appears on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation and begins butchering innocent lives, native superstitions are fueled.  Could this wraith actually be General George Armstrong Custer returned from the dead to seek retribution for his massacre at the Battle of Little Bighorn?  Then, when gangsters attempt to kidnap a Sioux Princess at a prestigious college in New York, Captain Hazzard and his team of adventurers soon find themselves flying to Montana to unravel a truly bizarre mystery.

Accompanying them is Jim Anthony, the famous Super Detective, along with his grandfather, the Comanche shaman, Mephito.  Somewhere in those rugged mountains and plains lies a secret from the past that will change Anthony’s life forever.  But to uncover it, he and the Hazzard will have to risk all and solve the mystery of Custer’s Ghost!

Fortier, the author, and Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor, had long wanted to bring both these great heroes together.  “It’s no secret to pulp fans that both were originally invented to copy the legendary Doc Savage,” Fortier related during a recent interview.  “Whereas Jim Anthony went on to have multiple adventures, Captain Hazzard only ever appeared in one issue of his own title and then vanished.  Throughout the years he’s been known as the One Hit Wonder.”

Since beginning Airship 27 Productions, over a decade ago, Fortier and partner, Art Director Rob Davis, have devoted themselves to continuing the adventures of lesser known pulp heroes such as Captain Hazzard and Jim Anthony. To date the company has released four books featuring the Super Detective in anthologies, while Fortier took it upon himself to write the new exploits of the Champion of Justice.

“Custer’s Ghost” has been three years in the making and the author is all too aware that readers have been overly patient awaiting its completion.  The book features interiors by Davis and a stunning cover by Pat Carbajal.  “In the end I hope they will think the wait was worth it,” Fortier says hopefully.  “Just don’t ask me when number six is coming?”

REESE JOINS CAPTAIN ACTION TEAM!

BARRY REESE JOINS CAPTAIN ACTION TEAM!

Airship 27 Productions and Captain Action Enterprises LLC are thrilled to welcome popular New Pulp writer Barry Reese to the Captain Action team.  Reese, known for his fast paced, action pulp series such as the Peregrine, Lazarus Gray and Gravedigger, will be making his debut in the third Captain Action novel from Airship 27 Productions.

Since their partnership with Captain Action Enterprises began several years ago, Airship 27 Productions has released two Captain Action full length novels; “Riddle of the Glowing Men” and “Hearts of the Rising Sun,” both by writer Jim Beard. Last year a Lady Action novelette, “The Sands of Forever” was authored by Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor, Ron Fortier.

“This is a really great franchise,” said Fortier recently.  “Not only do these books appeal our pulp readers, but also to the legions of Captain Action toy collectors.  It just seemed a natural fit right from the start.  Jim Beard’s first two novels were a big hit and it’s been clear all along that our fans want more.”

Whereas Beard’s own fast rising success began to infringe on his available time, he was still hoping to get a third Captain Action novel done.  Eventually realizing that would be impossible, Beard reached out to his friend and colleague Barry Reese to see if he was available to help with the project.  After receiving approval from all parties involved, the two writers worked out their plans.

“I'm providing a full plot and chapter breakdown,” Beard explained, “as well as providing oversight for every step of the writing to insure characterization and continuity to the previous two novels.”

As for Reese, his own excitement was evident from the start.  "As a lifelong fan of the Captain Action character, I'm thrilled to be able to work with Jim in adding new layers to the legend! We've both bursting with enthusiasm about the project and I can't think of a better writer to be teaming up with!"

So there you have it, pulp fans; the first ever team up of Jim Beard and Barry Reese to bring you the third action packed Captain Action adventure in this continuing series from Airship 27 Productions and Captain Action Enterprises, LLC.  Look for the yet untitled book coming your way in early 2017.

DOMINO LADY Vol 2

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS
Presents
THE RETURN OF THE DOMINO LADY

Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to announce that pulpdom’s sexiest masked adventure is back in a brand new collection of her sexy exploits.  From a gang of corrupt policemen to secret Nazis saboteurs out to destroy the Los Angeles Olympics, the beautiful and wily crime-fighter has her hands full in this new quartet of tales by Gene Moyers, Brad Mengel, Robert Ricci and Paul Findley.

“Volume One of this series was a whopping success for us,” reports Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor Ron Fortier.  “We couldn’t keep copies on our tables at the pulp cons.  Our readers, both men and women, are extremely fascinated by this character as there were so few female pulp heroes back in the 30s and 40s.”

Airship 27 Productions was also thrilled to reassemble the art team that made Volume One so beautiful for the fans.  Under the helm of Art Director Rob Davis, artist James Lyle delivered another twelve fantastic black and white interior illustrations while Canadian Ted Hammond offered his second Domino Lady cover; a stunning image that captures the allure and mystery inherent in this great character.

As always, lovely socialite Ellen Patrick weaves her way in and out of trouble, donning her black silk domino mask whenever injustice rears its ugly head. From the time of her father’s murder, Ellen has dedicated herself to righting wrongs.  She just does it in a most peculiar fashion becoming the pulps’ most alluring and deadly hero; the Domino Lady.

ADVENTERS OF LANCE STAR SKY RANGER

THE ADVENTURES
Of
LANCE STAR – SKY RANGER
By Bobby Nash

Way back in 2005, Airship 27 Productions launched a new series of pulp adventures featuring aviation hero, Lance Star.  One of the four writers recruited for that first volume was Bobby Nash, who quickly found himself completely enamored with the gutsy World War I veteran flyer.  Enough so that in the subsequent three volumes that would follow, Bobby made sure to provide a new story for each.

“It was clear to us,” admits Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor Ron Fortier, “that Bobby had a special love for this character.  Enough so that we transferred the copyrights to him.  Soon thereafter Bobby wrote and had published the first ever Lance Star comic book.”

When Nash approached Fortier a few years ago about publishing the first ever full length Lance Star novel, both parties were immediately on board with the idea.  That novel, tentatively titled – COLD SNAP, should be out sometime in 2017.  To promote its arrival, Airship 27 Productions has collected all four of Bobby Nash’s previously published Lance Star tales in this Kindle Only Edition.  Besides collecting those great pulp stories, this digital collection also includes the first chapter of Nash’s novel as a special bonus feature.

“We’re excited about Bobby’s plans for Lance Star,” concludes Fortier.  “We hope this collection will spur renewed interest in this great high flying hero.  Believe me, with a rising talent like Bobby Nash, the best is always yet to come.”

MARK JUSTICE'S THE DEAD SHERIFF

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS
Presents
MARK JUSTICE’S – THE DEAD SHERIFF

On the 10th of Feb of this year, writer/radio host Mark Justice passed away at the age of 57. During the course of his short life, he wrote dozens of great horror, fantasy and pulp action tales. One of his last creations was “The Dead Sheriff” originally released a few years ago by another publisher.

Richard O’Malley is a hard working Boston reporter in the years following the Civil War.  He is fascinated by tales of the Wild West and the colorful frontiersmen who are taming it. None captivate him more than the stories of the Dead Sheriff; a dedicated lawman who had risen from the grave to continue his mission. Taking his life savings, O’Malley embarks on a personal quest to find this mythical figure and chronicle his exploits. What he finds will make them both legends.

Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor relates the history behind this new edition.  “Prior to his death, Mark contacted us to see if we would be willing to reprint this brilliant weird western of his.  Mark, a regular contributor to our books, loved how we dress up our titles with classic pulp-like covers and use interior illustrations.  Mark wanted “The Dead Sheriff” to have that authentic pulp touch and we were only to happy to deliver.”

When the author passed away unexpectedly, Fortier was left wondering if the project would ever be completed.  “When Mark’s wife, Norma Kay, contacted me several months later, I was delighted. Norma was aware of Mark’s desire to see this new edition get done and gave us her blessing to continue with the project.  We honestly could not have done it without her.”

Fortier then assembled his art team under the guidance of Art Director Rob Davis.  Canadian Art Cooper was recruited to do the nine black and white interior illustrations and for the ghoulish western cover, Zachary Brunner was brought on board.  “When we explained to them the significance of this project” adds Fortier, “both of them were thrilled and honored to sign on in helping to keep Mark’s dream alive.  And they delivered above and beyond.  This is truly one of the most beautiful books we have ever put out.”

Now Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to bring pulp fans Mark Justice’s most original creation in this new, expanded edition; the first of a brand new series starring…THE DEAD SHERIFF.

THE PHANTOM DETECTIVE Vol 1

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS
Presents
THE PHANTOM DETECTIVE Vol One.

High atop the Clarion Tower, a blinking red light begins to pulse signaling one of New York City’s most illustrious, vigilante heroes, the Phantom Detective.  In reality, he is Curtis Van Loan, a debonair playboy millionaire well known in the society columns of all the major dailies. What is hidden from the public is Van Loan’s dedication to law and order. A decorated combat pilot during World War I, he is an expert fencer, ju-jitsu master and speaks a dozen foreign tongues fluently.

Hidden in his Park Avenue penthouse is a secret closet in which are found clothing of all descriptions and sizes.  Along the wall are weapons; automatic rifles, sub-machine guns. There is also a miniature lab along with an extensive make-up kit that allows him to don different faces as his mission requires.  Forget the silly Top Hat featured on the old pulp covers, while in action the Phantom Detective wore a belted topcoat, a fedora and black domino mask. He carried a .45 automatic and a hidden knife in his left sleeve.

“The Phantom Detective was another of those great B characters,” offers Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor, Ron Fortier. “His were more straight forward detective tales.  Unlike the other masked avengers, he had no supernatural abilities and relied on his wits to solve the crimes he tackled from month to month.”

One of the hallmarks of the Phantom Detective pulp magazine were its popular “giant head” composition covers wherein smaller figures were depicted n the lower foreground  while behind them was the looming giant head of the hero in his mask and trademark top hat.  In recruiting the amazing Pat Carbajal to do this cover, Art Director Rob Davis, worked with the artist to pay homage to those old classic compositions; including using the same logo brand above the picture.  Interiors were provided by artist Andrew Ritchie.

“The idea of doing a traditional Detective Phantom cover was too tempting to pass up,” adds Fortier.  “But this time, we were committed to showcasing the hero as he appeared in the actual stories, without that silly top hat. We think Pat knocked it out of the ballpark.”

Now, this popular pulp icon returns to once more battle villainy and crime in five new cases by Gene Moyers, Whit Howland, Robert Ricci and Gary Lovisi; who turns in two.  Each recaptures the fun, excitement and thrills of this classic hero from the past; the Phantom Detective.
